Covered Bridge Board of Directors

Charlie Lane
President

How long have you lived in Covered Bridge Estates?
I have lived in Covered Bridge since early 2016.

What is an interesting fact(s) about yourself?
There is nothing particularly interesting about me.
What do you like the most about living at Covered Bridge Estates?
This is a well maintained, quiet, family-oriented community with fantastic amenities and low HOA membership fees. This is a really great “bang-for-your-buck” community. Close to 75 but also tucked away, in a growing part of town. I’ve become very friendly with my immediate neighbors and couldn’t have asked for a kinder or more helpful group of people to live nearby.
What would you like to see changed at Covered Bridge Estates?
I joined the Board of Directors because I wanted to be involved in the community, get to know my neighbors, and be of service. This current Board is very active in trying to enhance the “resident experience” here in the community. During my time on the board there have been a number of people who have stepped forward to contribute, suggest better ways to do things, and promote activities to get more people involved. I strongly support any initiatives that make Covered Bridge a better place to live.
What are your hobbies, or what do you do for fun?
Playing guitar, meditating, reading, computer programming, enjoying the local parks/preserves with my dog, working on old cars, and home improvement activities.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only eat one food I guess it would be whatever the special sandwich of the day is at my favorite NY deli.

How long have you lived in Covered Bridge Estates?
My wife (Jane) and I moved to Florida and into Covered Bridge Estates in February 2004 from New Hampshire.

What is an interesting fact(s) about yourself?
I graduated from the University of South Dakota with a BS degree in Business Administration. Then, I also completed a 3 year work/study in the Financial Management Training Program (FMP) with General Electric. I subsequently went into Information Systems Management and ultimately became an Informmation Systems Analyst at a time when computer programs and data were entered using punched paper cards. Even though I continuously attempt to keep up, I have to admit that I feel like I am falling behind in this ever changing digital era.
Why did you join the Board of Directors?
In the mid 2000’s I was selected by our Developer to sit on an adhoc committee/temporary Board. Then I served on a Transition Committee working on issues till the Developer “Turned Over” the management of CBE to the homeowners. Both of us have served on various other committees and organizations in CBE. Early on I organized and ran a CBE Neighborhood Watch Committee. I have been subsequently elected and reelected a number of times to the Board since 2010. I have served on the Board as a Treasurer and the Vice-President. I am interested in continuing to improve the communications between the Board members, our Property Manager and all residents (Owners and Renters).
What do you like the most about living at Covered Bridge Estates?
Like nearly all of the residents who live in our community of almost 800 homes, I am proud of what we have been able to build here and continue to enhance in an affordable HOA setting.
What would you like to see changed at Covered Bridge Estates?
Change is inevitable. Adding incrementally to facilities and activities that are needed, wanted and desired by residents is something that I will continue to support if and when the costs are “doable”.
What are your hobbies, or what do you do for fun?
Baseball, Football, Performing Arts: We are Boston Red Sox and Pittsburg Pirates fans. I belong to and am a Director on the Bradenton Pirates Booster Club. I am a Season Ticket Holder of the Pirates Spring Training and Bradenton Class A High Pirates Marauder Baseball Team. Jane and I Volunteer with the Bradenton Boosters working at Pirate City and LECOM Park during the Spring. We are New England Patriot football fans. Both of us also volunteer with the Manatee Performing Arts Center all year round.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

How long have you lived in Covered Bridge Estates?
My wife and I moved to Covered Bridge Estates in February 2006 I accepted the job as Planning Director for the City of Bradenton in December 2005.

What is an interesting fact(s) about yourself?
I have held the position of Planning Director or Commissioner in six Cities and six States. We move here from Norfolk Virginia; but we were born and raised in the City of Detroit, Michigan.
Why did you join the Board of Directors?
I was asked to join by past CBE board Members because of my experience in working with HOA’s and working with Manatee County.
What do you like the most about living at Covered Bridge Estates?
The location and the quietness.
What would you like to see changed at Covered Bridge Estates?
While I think we are making great progress, I think we can still improve by adding more activities and events for the residents, to create a sense of community and inclusion. I also would like to upgrade the Landscape Enhancements of CBE along improving the lighting and upgrading the mail boxes.
What are your hobbies, or what do you do for fun?
My wife and I like to go to the Movies.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

How long have you lived in Covered Bridge Estates?
My wife and I moved to Covered Bridge Estates in January 2015 as snow birds and became full-time residents in August 2017.

What is an interesting fact(s) about yourself?
I enjoy computer programming and website design, which led me to volunteer to develop the CBECAI.COM website. I also consider myself a “jack-of-all trades” regarding odd jobs around the house and helping out our neighbors.
Why did you join the Board of Directors?
I got involved with the Board after being active on the Communications Committee and witnessing the great things that the Board is trying to do. I am interested in continuing to improve the communications between the Board members and the residents and to help make this a community that our owners can be proud of.
What do you like the most about living at Covered Bridge Estates?
I like the location of our community – close enough to Interstate 75 and 301 to get to “the big city” and yet rural enough to hear the cows moo from the pasture adjoining the community.
What would you like to see changed at Covered Bridge Estates?
While I think we are making great progress, I think we can still improve by adding more activities and events for the residents, to create a sense of community and inclusion. I also would like to change the perception that the Board isn’t caring about the needs of residents and owners.
What are your hobbies, or what do you do for fun?
I enjoy computer programming, reading, and (believe it or not) mowing lawns. My wife and I have taken up kayaking now that we are in a part of the country that is warm year-round. We also like exploring the countryside with our two Jack Russell terriers.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Chicken Parmesan

I toured with Black Sabbath for 3 Years, and have visited every state in the mainland US while working for Playstation in the early 2000’s.
Why did you join the Board of Directors?
I joined because I wanted to help make a safer, great place for my sons to grow up in and to learn more about how an HOA operates.
What do you like the most about living at Covered Bridge Estates?
I love the passion that all of the residents have for the community and the sense of family that everyone on our street has for everyone. It’s exciting to be a part of something so amazing.
